Pastel artwork is delicate and easily smudged and damaged if not protected by suitable framing. If you have commissioned an unframed portrait we strongly advise you to arrange for framing soon after delivery.
Unframed artwork should be stored flat in the protective sandwich it was delivered in until framed. When you view the portrait, please don’t touch the pastel as it will smudge – treat it as if it were wet paint. Also, don’t move or drag the protective glassine paper across the art as again this will damage the work.
Framed artwork should not be placed in direct sunlight as this may dull the colours in time. Also, as pastel paintings are incredibly sensitive to moisture, avoid hanging the work in areas of high humidity, e.g., bathrooms.
Whenever moving a framed pastel artwork, keep it face up or upright. This will help reduce unsightly loose pastel particles falling onto the glass or becoming lodged between the glass and the mount.
